How do I determine which age group my daughter will tryout for?
Summer League and Tournament ages use ASA guidelines. It does NOT use school grades as in our town league, but simply uses the year a player is born.
How are players selected for the Lady Hawks teams?
At tryouts the coaches run a series of drills to assess the skills of each player. After reviewing the results, the coaches select players based on ability, attitude and overall approach to the game. Strong consideration is also given to a player’s current in-town & past performance.
What is the cost to play on a Lady Hawks team and is there a tryout fee?
There is a fee per player. This covers uniforms, equipment, game balls, insurance, umpires fees, tournament expenses and other league expenses. There is no tryout fee.
My daughter played on one of the Lady Hawks teams last year, does she have to tryout again this year?
Yes; girls must tryout for the teams every year - players are not automatically added to a team this year because they were on a team last year.
How will girls be notified if they have made a Lady Hawks team?
Within one week after conclusion of the last day of tryouts the roster for each Travel team will be posted on the league website. www.hansongirlssoftball.com
What if my daughter isn't selected for a Lady Hawks team?
Unfortunately, not all girls that tryout will make a team. Please explain to your daughter that players change & improve each year (Michael Jordan was cut from his Freshman basketball team!) and players that work hard and maintain a positive attitude can easily reach that level next year.
How many players are selected for each Lady Hawks team?
Generally, coaches will attempt to pick 12-15 players for each team. This number might change from year to year depending upon various factors that the coaches have to take into consideration when putting together each team.
Who will the Lady Hawks Travel teams play against?
All 3 Lady Hawks travel teams will compete in the “South Shore Summer Softball League” Towns currently competing in the SSSSL are Kingston, Duxbury, Middleboro, Bridgewater, Raynham, Taunton, Lakeville, Scituate, Cohasset, Whitman, Abington, Braintree, Norwell, Hanover, Brockton, East Bridgewater and Marshfield. Most age divisions however, are grouped by geography to minimize travel.

What is the practice schedule?
Practice schedules will vary depending on each coach. Generally, once teams are selected, they will begin getting in a few odd practices during the remainder of the regular season. They will attempt to practice 3-4 times during the week prior to the beginning of the SSSSL season. Once the season begins, teams will generally attempt to practice only once per week.
What happens if my daughter makes a Lady Hawks team but she already has plans to be away for vacation or overnight camp?
All girls are asked to list any vacations or away camps they are attending this summer (up until August 8th) when registering at tryouts, so that the coaches can plan accordingly when selecting girls for the teams. Missing a week for a vacation or camp is not a problem as long as coaches know beforehand. However, if a player will be away for multiple weeks it may be difficult for a coach to carry them over a player who will be able to attend the games and/or practices.
